About the role

Abacus Tutors is opening its seventh learning centre, in Tai Po, and STEM is the reason. Our existing robotics and coding courses have a waiting list at three centres, and the Tai Po site has been designed around them: two build rooms, a laser cutter, and enough bench space that thirty children can make a mess simultaneously.

You would be the person who makes that room work. Part curriculum designer, part teacher, part logistics manager — you will write the course, deliver a good share of it yourself, and manage the four part-time instructors who deliver the rest.

The centre opens in October. There is a real chance to shape the programme before the first cohort walks in, rather than inheriting someone else's syllabus.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain course materials for robotics, block and text-based coding, and applied science, across P3 to S3.
• Teach roughly twelve contact hours per week, mostly weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.
• Recruit, train and schedule four part-time instructors, and observe their teaching once a term.
• Manage the equipment inventory and consumables budget, including procurement of kits and spares.
• Prepare students for inter-school robotics and coding competitions, including weekend team practice in the two months before an event.
• Run trial classes and parent briefings — a good part of enrolment depends on whether parents believe you.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, science or education.
• 2+ years teaching or coaching STEM to school-age children, in a school, centre or competition setting.
• Hands-on with at least two of: micro:bit, Arduino, LEGO robotics platforms, Scratch, Python.
• Business-level Cantonese for teaching and parent meetings; business English for materials and international competition briefs.
• Willing to work an evening-and-Saturday schedule, with a weekday off in exchange.

Nice to have

• Competition judging or team-coaching record.
• 3D printing, CAD or laser-cutting workshop experience.
• Registered Teacher status, though it is not required for centre-based teaching.
