About the role
JadeCircuit has been designing boards and firmware since 2006 and is very good at it. What it does not yet have is a software organisation. Building energy monitoring for commercial landlords means cloud dashboards, fleet firmware updates across tens of thousands of devices, an API that facilities-management vendors integrate with, and an on-call expectation that the firmware world has never had to meet.
That work is currently spread across three teams that report into hardware leadership, and it shows. This role brings it together: roughly forty people across cloud, device software, data and QA, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, with a seat in the product council that decides what gets built.
You should want the organisational problem as much as the technical one. There are excellent embedded engineers here who have never worked with continuous deployment, and there are cloud engineers who have never had to think about a device with a two-week battery and no reliable uplink. Getting those two groups to design together is the job.
What you'll do
- Build and lead a unified software organisation of around forty engineers across cloud, device software, data and QA.
- Set the technical strategy for the connected-products platform: fleet management, over-the-air update, telemetry and APIs.
- Introduce the engineering practices this company now needs — CI/CD, code review, incident response — without breaking what already works.
- Own the software roadmap alongside hardware programme milestones, including the certification gates.
- Hire and develop engineering managers; two of the three current leads are first-time managers.
- Work with the Shenzhen manufacturing team and mainland partners on the device-side software supply chain.
- Represent software in commercial conversations with property groups and facilities-management customers.
What we're looking for
- Twelve or more years in software engineering with at least five leading multi-team organisations.
- You have built or substantially rebuilt an engineering function, not just inherited one that was working.
- Credible depth in cloud platforms and connected-device or IoT software; you can review an architecture and find the flaw.
- Experience working with hardware or manufacturing organisations and their release cadence.
- Business-level Cantonese, English and Mandarin — mainland partner meetings run in Mandarin.
Nice to have
- Background in building management, energy or industrial automation.
- Familiarity with Hong Kong carbon reporting requirements for commercial buildings.
- Prior experience taking a hardware company's software from project work to product.
What you get
- 13th month salary and a director-level bonus scheme
- Medical and dental for the family, plus annual health screening
- MPF employer contribution topped up to 7%
- 21 days annual leave at this level
- Shenzhen travel allowance and cross-border logistics support
- Patent filing bonus for named inventors
