About the role
The CloudPeak console is where a customer's platform team approves a change, watches a migration cut over, or works out which of two hundred clusters is the one paging them. It is used under pressure, often on a phone in a taxi, and the current experience does not respect that. Largest Contentful Paint on the cluster list is 3.4 seconds and we are not proud of it.
This role exists because we have decided to treat the console as a product rather than an accessory to the API. You will lead the front end alongside two engineers and a product designer, and you will have a direct line to the platform teams whose data you render — no ticket queue in between.
There is a real engineering problem underneath the polish: streaming thousands of resource events into a view that stays truthful, keeping optimistic updates honest when a change window fails, and making the whole thing usable in Traditional Chinese without the layout falling apart.
What you'll do
- Lead front-end architecture for the console — React and TypeScript, server components where they earn their place, and a design system shared with the mobile approvals app.
- Bring Core Web Vitals into the green on the four highest-traffic views and keep them there with budgets enforced in CI.
- Build real-time resource views over server-sent events without melting the browser tab a customer left open for a week.
- Take the accessibility backlog seriously: keyboard paths, focus management and WCAG 2.2 AA on every screen we ship.
- Own the Traditional Chinese localisation of the interface, including the layout work that longer Chinese strings actually need.
- Pair with platform engineers to shape the APIs the console consumes, rather than working around them afterwards.
What we're looking for
- Five or more years in front-end engineering, with recent production TypeScript and React.
- You can read a performance trace and say what to change — not just quote a Lighthouse score.
- Experience building interfaces over live, high-cardinality data: websockets or SSE, virtualised lists, cache invalidation.
- A track record of shipping accessible interfaces, and an opinion about why most enterprise consoles are not.
- Business English, with enough Cantonese to run a workshop with a customer's ops team.
Nice to have
- Bilingual product work in Traditional Chinese.
- Design-system ownership across web and mobile.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts — you will be rendering them all day.
What you get
- 20 days annual leave, rising to 25
- Medical and dental for the whole family
- MPF employer top-up to 9%
- HK$20,000 a year of conference and training budget
- Hybrid — two days on site at Science Park
