About the role
Two thirds of the Trust's income is restricted government and trust funding, which is stable and completely unhelpful when a family needs something the funding line does not cover. The Development team's job is the other third: HK$11 million of unrestricted income from corporate partners, individual donors and events.
The board has asked for HK$18 million within three years. That will not come from squeezing the current mix. We think it comes from a proper major-gifts programme, from converting three transactional corporate sponsors into multi-year partners, and from being honest about our flagship charity walk, which costs more to run each year than the growth it delivers.
This is a hands-on manager role with one Development Officer and a part-time donor-database assistant reporting to you, working under Development Director Cordelia Ngan. You will present to the board's fundraising committee twice a year, and you will be given the room to say the walk should change.
What you'll do
- Own the unrestricted income target and the three-year plan to grow it, by channel and by donor segment
- Build and manage a portfolio of corporate partners, moving sponsors towards multi-year, employee-engaged partnerships
- Develop a major-gifts pipeline with cultivation plans for the top 40 individual prospects
- Write proposals and impact reports that a donor will actually read, working from programme evidence rather than adjectives
- Lead the annual flagship event end to end, including the case for changing its format
- Manage the donor database, stewardship calendar and the Trust's Lotteries and public-subscription permit compliance
- Line manage a Development Officer and coach them into owning their own portfolio
What we're looking for
- 6+ years in fundraising, corporate partnerships, sponsorship sales or account management, including NGO exposure
- Track record of personally closing five- and six-figure gifts or partnerships
- Strong written English and Cantonese — proposals in English, cultivation meetings in Cantonese
- Comfortable with donor CRM data and reporting on pipeline rather than activity
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
Nice to have
- Experience running a public-subscription permit or flag day
- Major-gifts or legacy-giving training
- An existing corporate network in Hong Kong
What you get
- 13th month salary and 20 days annual leave
- Medical and dental cover for you and dependants
- Flexible hybrid working around donor meetings — nobody counts office hours
- Professional membership and fundraising conference funded
- Two paid volunteering days a year on any Trust programme you like
