About the role

Kai Tak Logistics buys haulage subcontracting, ocean and air capacity, warehouse leases, materials handling equipment, agency labour and technology. Until now each of those has been bought by the function that uses it. It works, but it leaves value on the table and gives us no leverage when the freight market turns.

This is a newly created role reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. You will build the group procurement function from a team of three buyers into a proper category organisation, set the governance, and run the first genuinely competitive tenders we have had across subcontracted haulage and MHE.

The mandate is real — the board has already approved the headcount and the spend analytics tooling. What it needs is someone who can do this without turning procurement into the department everyone routes around. You will spend as much time earning the operations directors' trust as you will negotiating.

What you'll do

• Build and lead the group procurement function, growing the team from three to eight over two years
• Own category strategy across subcontracted transport, ocean and air capacity, MHE, facilities and technology
• Run major tenders end to end — RFI, RFP, commercial evaluation, negotiation, award and contract execution
• Introduce supplier segmentation, performance scorecards and quarterly business reviews for strategic vendors
• Establish procurement policy, delegation of authority and an approval workflow the business will actually follow
• Deliver an agreed annual savings and cost-avoidance target, validated jointly with Finance
• Lead ESG and responsible sourcing requirements into supplier contracts, including carbon reporting from hauliers

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree; MCIPS or an MBA is strongly preferred
• 12+ years in procurement with at least 4 leading a team, ideally in logistics, shipping, industrial or retail supply chains
• Demonstrated ownership of a nine-figure spend and a track record of savings that survived audit
• Business-level English and Cantonese, plus Mandarin for mainland and regional vendor negotiation
• The political skill to build a central function inside a business that has never had one

Nice to have

• Experience implementing a source-to-pay platform (Coupa, Ariba, Ivalua)
• Regional remit across Greater China or Southeast Asia
• Prior post-merger procurement integration experience
