About the role
Nine Dragons Metals trades ferrous scrap, aluminium billet and stainless coil between recyclers in Hong Kong and mills in Guangdong and Vietnam. It is a small, unglamorous, profitable business, and the operations team is what makes the trading side possible.
This coordinator seat is based at our Kwai Chung operations office beside the container terminals, not in the Kwun Tong head office. You will be the person the traders call when a booking rolls, the person the warehouse calls about a weight discrepancy, and the person who tells everyone the truth about when the cargo will actually arrive.
The team is four people and the manager. There is no layer between you and the decisions, which means the job is busy and the learning curve is steep — most of our coordinators can price a freight leg within a year.
What you'll do
- Book vessel space and containers, and manage the schedule against contract shipment windows.
- Prepare and check shipping documents: bills of lading, packing lists, weight certificates and certificates of origin.
- Coordinate customs clearance and import or export declarations with brokers on both sides of the boundary.
- Manage warehouse inflows and outflows in Kwai Chung and Yuen Long, including stock counts and warrant records.
- Track demurrage and detention exposure and act before charges accrue.
- Handle quality and weight claims with surveyors, and keep the trader informed with dates, not adjectives.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years in shipping, freight forwarding or commodity trade operations in Hong Kong.
- Practical knowledge of Incoterms 2020, container shipping documentation and customs procedures.
- Higher diploma in logistics, supply chain, shipping or a related discipline.
- Cantonese and Mandarin for terminals, mills and mainland brokers; business English for documentation.
- Calm under a rolling schedule — cargo does not care about your plan for the afternoon.
Nice to have
- Metals, scrap or bulk cargo experience.
- Familiarity with LME warehouse warrant handling.
- Cross-boundary trucking experience into the Pearl River Delta.
What you get
- 13th month plus a year-end operations bonus
- Medical and dental cover, plus annual body check
- Transport allowance for the Kwai Chung site
- 15 days annual leave rising to 20 with service
- Company-funded shipping and Incoterms training
