About the role
Pearl Studio is a small motion and film outfit in an old industrial building in Kwun Tong — fourteen of us, one grade suite, an unreasonable number of hard drives. We make product films, title sequences and social cut-downs, mostly for beauty, fashion and consumer electronics brands.
A regional beauty client has just approved a visual system we spent four months developing, and the production slate that follows is bigger than our permanent team can absorb. This is a straight six-month contract to help us land it, with a genuine possibility of extension into the following slate.
The role is remote by default. We ask for two days a month in the Kwun Tong studio for reviews and grade sessions; the rest is yours to organise, provided files land in the shared project on schedule.
What you'll do
- Design and animate fourteen product films at 15s, 6s and 30s durations, working from an approved style frame set.
- Build a reusable After Effects title and lower-third system that our editors can retarget without breaking the type.
- Handle 3D product passes in Cinema 4D or Blender, including turntables and material studies.
- Deliver correctly specified masters for social, OOH and in-store screens, with the aspect-ratio variants each requires.
- Sit in weekly remote reviews, take notes cleanly, and turn a round in two working days.
- Keep project files tidy and named to studio convention — someone else will open them after you.
What we're looking for
- 4+ years of professional motion design with a reel of finished, broadcast-or-social-delivered work.
- Fluent After Effects, including expressions, and confident in at least one 3D package (Cinema 4D, Blender or Houdini).
- Practical colour and delivery knowledge: you understand codecs, colour space and why the client's screen looks different from yours.
- Able to work independently across time zones with minimal supervision — this contract will not be micromanaged.
- Business-level English; this team works in English and the client is regional.
Nice to have
- Houdini or embergen for practical simulation work.
- Experience animating 繁體中文 type, which behaves nothing like Latin type when it moves.
- A grasp of Cavalry or Rive for systemised, data-driven motion.
What you get
- Fully remote with two studio days a month
- Contract completion bonus on on-time delivery of the full slate
- Studio hardware provided, or a HK$12,000 allowance if you prefer your own
- Named credit on every piece in the slate
- First refusal on the next production slate
