About the role
Kowloon East is where our loan book actually grows. The industrial conversions around Kwun Tong and Ngau Tau Kok have filled up with mid-sized manufacturers, freight forwarders and specialist contractors who have outgrown a single overdraft facility and want a banker who returns calls. Our Business Banking centre on Hoi Yuen Road covers that patch with eight relationship managers and a dedicated credit team sitting on the same floor.
The role is open because one of our senior RMs has moved into the credit function, leaving a mature portfolio of roughly 70 borrowers with combined limits just under HK$1.4 billion. You inherit it — not a blank sheet. Your first ninety days are about meeting every top-20 client on their own factory floor and forming your own view before the next annual review cycle.
You will work daily with a credit analyst assigned to your book, our trade finance desk in Sheung Wan, and the cash management product team. Sanctioning is done in Hong Kong; there is no offshore committee sitting three time zones away that never met your client.
What you'll do
- Manage and grow a portfolio of 60-80 SME and mid-market borrowing relationships across Kowloon East and the eastern New Territories.
- Structure working capital, term loan, equipment finance and trade facilities, and write the credit application yourself rather than delegating it.
- Present cases to the Hong Kong credit committee and defend your recommendation, including the downside scenario.
- Run annual reviews on schedule, chase covenant compliance and audited accounts, and escalate early warning signals before they become past dues.
- Cross-sell FX hedging, payroll and cash management with the product specialists, and split the credit fairly with them.
- Conduct site visits — factories, warehouses, yards — and record what you actually saw in the call report.
- Keep KYC refresh and lending-related documentation current in line with HKMA supervisory expectations.
What we're looking for
- 6+ years in commercial or business banking in Hong Kong with direct portfolio ownership.
- Demonstrated ability to write a credit paper end to end, including financial spreading and covenant design.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or a related discipline.
- Native Cantonese and business-level English; Mandarin needed for mainland-parented clients.
- Sound working knowledge of HKMA lending guidelines and the SME Financing Guarantee Scheme.
Nice to have
- AHKIB or Certified Banker designation from the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers.
- Existing coverage of light manufacturing, printing or logistics clients.
- Experience with cross-boundary lending into the Greater Bay Area.
What you get
- 13th month plus a transparent quarterly incentive tied to portfolio revenue, not units sold
- Medical and dental for you and dependants, with an outpatient network across Kowloon
- Staff mortgage and personal loan preferential rates
- 18 days annual leave rising to 22, plus your birthday off
- Full sponsorship for HKIB Certified Banker modules
