About the role
Our live mobile title has been running for five years and still has a player base that treats it as a local institution. They know the patch cadence, they know which event is coming, and within an hour of a release they will tell you exactly which device model now stutters in the market scene. It keeps everyone honest.
The client team is seven programmers working in Unity and C# against a C++ services backend. This role sits on gameplay and live events: building the seasonal content the design team dreams up, keeping frame time stable on five-year-old Android hardware, and steadily paying down the parts of the codebase written in a hurry before a launch.
We should be straight about the studio: there have been crunch periods around ship dates, and after a rough 2024 launch management put a hard cap on overtime that we are now a year into testing for real. Ask us about it in the interview — everybody does, and the answer is not defensive.
What you'll do
- Build gameplay features and seasonal live events in Unity and C#, from prototype through to live release.
- Profile and optimise client performance, with a hard target of stable frame time on our five-year-old Android reference devices.
- Work with designers on tuning and feel — the difference between a mechanic that works and one that is fun is your problem too.
- Integrate with backend services for inventory, matchmaking and live-ops configuration.
- Support the Cantonese voice-over and localisation pipeline on the client side, including layout for Traditional Chinese.
- Take part in release checks and the day-one live support window after each patch.
What we're looking for
- Four or more years of professional game programming, including at least one shipped title.
- Strong C# and Unity, with real mobile optimisation experience — draw calls, GC pressure, memory budgets.
- Comfortable in a Perforce-based pipeline with artists and designers in the same room.
- You play games and can talk about why a mechanic works, not only how it is implemented.
- Business Cantonese and English; design discussion happens in Cantonese and the codebase is documented in English.
Nice to have
- Live-ops experience on a title with a long-running player base.
- Unreal or console SDK experience — the next project is in pre-production.
- Shader or graphics programming.
What you get
- Ship bonus on every title, credited to everyone who worked on it
- Overtime cap policy with time back in lieu
- Medical insurance and MPF employer top-up to 6%
- 16 days annual leave, rising to 20
- Studio game library, dev kits and hardware of your choice
- Flexible start times — the studio is not a 9am place
