Secondary School English Teacher (NET)

About the role

BrightPath Education runs three secondary campuses in Hong Kong. This post is at our Tsuen Wan campus, a through-train school of about 780 students where roughly a third continue to overseas universities and the rest sit the HKDSE.

You would join an English panel of nine, two of whom are NETs. The panel plans schemes of work collectively, moderates marking together, and has a genuine culture of walking into each other's lessons — new colleagues consistently say this is the part that surprised them most.

The role exists because our second NET is returning to the UK at the end of the current contract. We are offering the standard two-year renewable contract, with the gratuity and housing allowance package that makes Hong Kong workable on a teacher's salary.

What you'll do

• Teach approximately 26 periods a week of English Language across S3 to S6, including HKDSE Paper 2 writing and Paper 4 speaking.
• Prepare and moderate assessments with the English panel, including standardised marking of DSE-style scripts.
• Run the school's English enrichment programme: debating squad, a student-produced podcast, and the annual drama night.
• Lead small-group speaking clinics for S5 and S6 students in the run-up to the DSE speaking examination.
• Act as a form tutor for one class, including pastoral care and parent communication in English.
• Support local colleagues on English-medium materials and contribute to whole-school language policy.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree plus a recognised teaching qualification — PGDE, PGCE, QTS or equivalent.
• 3+ years of secondary English teaching experience, ideally including an examination class.
• Native-standard English and a genuine understanding of second-language learners at senior secondary level.
• Familiarity with HKDSE English Language, or a demonstrable ability to get up to speed on it quickly.
• Eligible for a Hong Kong employment visa — the school sponsors and handles the application, and welcomes IANG holders.

Nice to have

• A TEFL, CELTA or DELTA qualification alongside your teaching degree.
• Experience with IGCSE or IB English in addition to a local curriculum.
• Basic Cantonese — not required for the classroom, but it makes the staffroom warmer.
