BrightLedger was founded in 2017 by an ex-auditor who had reconciled one bank statement too many. The company sells bookkeeping automation to Hong Kong small businesses — bank feeds, receipt capture, MPF and payroll, and a profits-tax pack that a company secretary can file without re-keying anything.
Around six thousand SMEs and two hundred accounting practices run on the platform. The hard part has never been the software; it is the long tail of local reality — IRD forms, cheque payments that still exist, invoices arriving as photos in WhatsApp, and clients who keep three sets of books for entirely legitimate reasons. Half the product team are qualified accountants, which is the company's actual moat.
Now based in Wong Chuk Hang, BrightLedger is expanding into working-capital lending on top of its accounting data. The engineering team is growing, but so is the domain team — the company hires accountants who want to stop doing the work and start automating it.
