About the role
Tidewall builds the payments layer that sits behind mid-market Hong Kong retailers and regional subscription businesses — one integration, every method your customer actually uses, and a dashboard that finance teams do not hate. We are eighty-something people in Cyberport and we ship weekly.
This role owns the merchant-facing checkout: hosted pages, SDKs, payment method coverage and the authorisation logic that decides whether a shopper in Yuen Long at 11pm gets a smooth tap or a declined card. Conversion is the number you are hired against, and you will have both the data and the engineering capacity to move it.
You would work with two squads (nine engineers), a designer who has been here since the first release, and the risk team whose rules you will occasionally want to soften. Weekly merchant calls are non-negotiable — every PM here spends time with the people whose revenue depends on our uptime.
What you'll do
- Own the checkout and payment-method roadmap end to end: discovery, spec, launch, measurement, and the honest post-launch review
- Run structured experiments on authorisation rates, retry logic and method ordering; publish results whether or not they flatter the idea
- Prioritise new payment methods against real demand data rather than the loudest merchant in the room
- Write the merchant-facing documentation for what you ship, because a payments product is only as good as its integration guide
- Partner with Risk to tune decline thresholds — every point of fraud prevention has a conversion price and you must be able to state it
- Sit in on merchant escalations and turn recurring pain into roadmap items with named owners
What we're looking for
- 5+ years in product management, including 2+ owning a payments, checkout or e-commerce transaction surface
- Demonstrable numeracy: you can size an opportunity, design an experiment and read the result without a data scientist holding your hand
- Experience writing specifications engineers respect and merchants can integrate against
- Business English plus enough Cantonese to keep a merchant conversation friendly
- Comfort with the reality that payments products fail publicly and at 3am
Nice to have
- Familiarity with card scheme rules, 3-D Secure 2 or local wallet integrations
- Prior time on the merchant side — running an online store teaches things a spec never will
- SQL good enough to answer your own questions
What you get
- Flexible hybrid: three office days a week, you pick which
- Medical, dental and an annual health screening
- Share options in a company that publishes its cap table internally
- 18 days annual leave plus your birthday off
- Visa sponsorship available; several of the product team relocated here
