About the role
Bamboo & Steel runs three active building sites and a fabrication yard. Our accident frequency rate is below the industry average and we intend to keep it there, which is why the SHE team reports to the Managing Director and not to the project managers whose programme it sometimes disrupts.
This role covers our Kowloon Bay yard and a nearby commercial refurbishment, splitting your week between the two. You will run inspections, deliver toolbox talks in Cantonese, review method statements and risk assessments, manage permits to work for lifting and confined spaces, and be the point of contact for Labour Department visits.
The person we want has stopped work before and been proven right afterwards. You will have the authority to do it here, in writing, from day one.
What you'll do
- Carry out daily site safety inspections and issue improvement or stop-work notices where required
- Review and approve method statements and risk assessments before high-risk works begin
- Administer permit-to-work systems for lifting operations, hot works, confined spaces and work at height
- Deliver toolbox talks, induction training and Green Card verification for all site personnel and subcontractors
- Investigate accidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses, and file statutory notifications within the deadline
- Maintain safety records, statistics and the safety management system for audits and client reviews
- Host Labour Department, client and third-party safety audits and close out findings
What we're looking for
- Registered Safety Officer under the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors) Regulations
- Higher Diploma or degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or an equivalent recognised qualification
- 5+ years of construction site safety experience with a main contractor
- Valid Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card) and Confined Space Safety Certificate
- Fluent Cantonese for toolbox talks and frontline enforcement; conversational English for reports and client audits
Nice to have
- Registered Safety Auditor status
- Experience with ISO 45001 certification and audit cycles
- Certified trainer for lifting supervisor or work-at-height courses
What you get
- Direct reporting line to the Managing Director — real authority, not advisory
- Site allowance, medical, dental and group personal accident cover
- Sponsored RSO registration renewal, RSA and CPD training
- Five-day week with alternate Saturdays on site
- Annual safety performance bonus tied to leading indicators, not just accident counts
