About the role
Talent Harbour places embedded HR business partners inside Hong Kong companies that have outgrown an office manager but cannot yet justify a full people team. Our partners typically split the week between two clients, say a 90-person logistics firm and a 40-person design studio, and are treated as staff by both.
We are hiring because one client renewed for two more years and another has just closed a Series B. The work is genuinely operational: you will write the offer letters, run the probation reviews, handle MPF onboarding and sit in the room when someone is being let go.
You report to Michelle Kwok and share a Central base with eight other partners. Once a month everyone comes in on the same day and we work through the cases nobody wants to handle alone.
What you'll do
- Act as the senior HR contact for two client organisations, covering the full employee lifecycle from offer to exit.
- Advise line managers on performance management, disciplinary process and restructuring under the Employment Ordinance.
- Build and maintain headcount plans, org charts and job architecture as clients scale past 100 staff.
- Run probation and annual review cycles, including calibration sessions with founders who have never held one.
- Review and localise employment contracts, staff handbooks and secondment arrangements for regional hires.
- Handle grievances, long-term sick leave and terminations with documentation that would survive the Labour Tribunal.
- Coach client HR coordinators so that we work ourselves out of the tactical parts of the job.
What we're looking for
- Six or more years in generalist HR in Hong Kong, at least two of them advising managers directly.
- Working command of the Employment Ordinance, MPF, and statutory holiday, sickness and maternity entitlements.
- Cantonese and English at business level: you will run the briefing in one and write the policy in the other.
- Track record of handling at least one restructuring or redundancy exercise end to end.
- Bachelor's degree; CIPD or HKIHRM membership is a plus rather than a hurdle.
Nice to have
- Experience supporting a company through a funding round or an acquisition.
- Mandarin for clients with Shenzhen operations.
- Familiarity with the HRIS platforms Hong Kong SMEs actually use.
What you get
- Five-day week with real flexibility on client-free days
- Medical, dental and an annual HK$6,000 wellness allowance
- 18 days' annual leave that carries over without an argument
- Professional membership and one conference a year covered
- No billable-hour target — you are measured on client outcomes
